Electro Acupuncture //

Electro Acupuncture is a relatively new Acupuncture technique in the sense that Acupuncture itself has been practiced in its traditional form for thousands of years. There is some debate to when Electro Acupuncture was first used.

Some believe it was first introduced in the 1940s while other suggest it may have been experimented in Europe in the 1800s. Despite this it wasn’t until around 1958 that Electro Acupuncture was fully used in China for pain relief.

Electro Acupuncture wasn’t really developed until 1958, when acupuncturists in China began experimenting with it as a form of pain relief. Since then it has become a popular addition to the skill of many Acupuncturists to use clinically for a variety of conditions.

Electro Acupuncture is basically Acupuncture with the addition of a small electrical stimulation on the needles to help increase the intensity of the stimulation to the point.

Electro Acupuncture may be used in appropriate circumstances to increase the stimulation from the needling. This is a very light electrical stimulation, which is set to a comfortable level for the patient.

This is done by attaching small clips (crocodile clips) to the handle of the needle which then connect to a small machine where the frequency and intensity can be controlled. This set up is rather similar to experiments carried out at school during a physics class or the use of a home TENS machine.

Electro Acupuncture Experience

Patients may experience a tingling sensation while being treated with Electro Acupuncture. This may be around the area where the needle is or moving away from the site, for example down an arm or leg.
